This Geek's Week...

"Hi, I'm Ten Numb.  I'm mean as ****!"

- Finished painting my "Terror with 1000 Legs" boss for MYTH.

- Played several rounds of Hearthstone, managed to hit rank 20 with my F2P Druid deck.

- Decided to start Warmachine back up, I picked up the Convergence of Cyriss Battle Box, Faction Book, and Tokens.  I've started putting together the Battle Box contents.

- Played 4 rounds of the Star Wars LCG.  I'm getting a bit better, the games were close, and I did manage to win one.

- Played a game of X-Wing, using the Rebels for the first time.  I used Dutch, Biggs, and a kitted out Ten Numb.  I won, but I felt horrible afterwards, and was afraid that I possibly ruined x-wing as a whole for my opponent.  Ten Numb just instantly vaporized a TIE each turn, and couldn't be touched due to Biggs.  Needless to say, I doubt I'll ever use that combo again!

This Geek's Week...

- Played a bit of Warthunder, both ground and air battles.

- Played a bunch of hearthstone.  I've been on a hot streak in ranked mode with my f2p Druid deck, though I am at the point where I doubt I'll run into anymore f2p decks.

- After putting the word out, I managed to get in 4 games of the Star Wars LCG, losing all of em.  There is just something about the strategy in the SWLCG that I cannot wrap my head around.  I imagine it is due to the gameplay being so radically different from CCGs.  It's not a complaint, it is a good thing, as it will keep me engaged longer.  I tend to get burnt out on games where I excel from the start...

My "State of the Hobby" address. /Rant

Just let me whine/cry/rant for a second, let me have my moment...

Looking for a happy read?  This is not it!  Forgive my cranky rant, but I Just gotta get this off my chest.  A trend I've noticed for many, many months now...

This Geek's Week...

Renault FT17 from the WWI Museum...

- Playing a TON of the Warthunder Ground Forces.  I'm still exclusively playing the Germans in RB, but I'm finding certain aspects of the tier 1 and tier 2 Russians to be really annoying to face off against.

- Painting wise, on the FoW side, I finished up my 509th Para platoon, as well as started working on some Panzer III's for MW.  Though after some more research into things, I may not ever really use my Paras, and may rework my list a bit...

- Painting wise, on the MYTH side, I finished painting up the rest of the ranged crawlers.  I also started working on painting the melee crawlers, the captains, and the boss, "the terror with 1000 legs".

- My non-gamer wife must have been inspired by our little "family game night" the other week, as she went and ordered "Robot Turtles" for my daughter.  My daughter and I have been playing a lot of her board games this week like: Robot Turtles, the Pokemon TFG, and The R2-D2/Star Wars version of Trouble.

- Found a copy of the second Ultramarines omnibus at the LGS, and went ahead and picked it up.

- The family and I went out to the National WWI Museum for Father's Day, which was pretty awesome.  It was pretty awesome, and if you ever find yourself in the Kansas City area, it's worth checking out if you are into history.  We were there for almost 4 hours...

FoW - Finished US 509th Paratrooper Platoon

I recently hunkered down and worked a ton on my first 15mm platoon EVER for FoW, the 509th Para element that will be going towards my Late War US Ranger list based around the Battle of Cisterna.  The models themselves came from the "Open Fire" box set, although I struggled getting the laying down MGs put together correctly, so I had to sub in some old, metal MGs.  What really impressed me most was all the detail that battlefront was able to achieve with the plastics, looking back at some old, old metal figures, BF has come a long way!    The platoon formation came out of the "Road to Rome" book, and the color scheme from the "Open Fire" box set book.  All in all, I'm pretty pleased for my first attempt at 15mm infantry, and I'm sure they will look just fin on the tabletop!

This Geek's Week...

Xenoshyft...

- Conducted another BGG trade.  this time, I got a copy of the DC deck builder in exchange for MedWar Sicily.

- Attempted to run Lini through the "poison pill" scenario.  I ended up running out of time, as she struggled with any check 11 or greater.

- worked on my MYTH crawlers, including the captain, the big boss, and Yardu, simply because I put too much paint on my pallet.

- Backed Xenoshyft on kickstarter.  I'm really hoping that there are not a ton of delays in production like I have encountered with Kingdom Death and Arena Rex...

Screen cap from Warthunder.  Loving the tanks!
- Played several games of hearthstone.  Most of my games were pretty crappy, but I did finish 3 quests...

- Played a bunch of Warthunder tanks for the first time, and I must say, waaaaay better than World of Tanks!  The Pz II and Pz III are hard to score kills in at times, but I've had a decent amount of kills in the PZ IV since it doesn't take 5+ shots to kill something. (most of the time)

- Played a 1/2 game (4 super villains) of the DC deck builder with the family.

- Worked a bit on painting my 509th Paras for FoW.

Spoiler-free book review- Pathfinder Tales: Queen of Thorns by Dave Gross

Pathfinder Tales: Queen of Thorns
 by Dave Gross

From the back of the book:
In the deep forests of Kyonin, elves live among their own kind, far from the prying eyes of other races.  Few of impure blood are allowed beyond the nation's borders, and thus it's a great honor for half-eleven Count Varian Jeggare and his hellspawn bodyguard Radovan to be allowed inside.  Yet all is not well in the elven kingdom:  demons stir in its depths, and an intricate web of politics seems destined to catch the two travelers in its snares.  In the course of tracking down a missing Druid, Varian and a team of eccentric elven adventurers will be forced to delve into dark secrets lost for generations - including the mystery of Varian's own past.

This Geek's Week...

... Another week goes by, with little being done on the hobby front.

- Started working on the Crawlers for MYTH.

- Gave Panzer General online a try. (panzergeneral.com). It's a fun little, free to play, browser based WWII game.  It's a fun distraction, but I doubt I'll play all that often... Especially seeing as I hardly play any of my other F2P stuff.

- Finished "Queen of Thorns" by Dave Gross.  Started reading the Ultramarines omnibus.  (I've been in a bit of a 40k mood since 7th ed dropped)

... and in other news, I'm thinking of starting up Warmahordes again, and I have also heard that SAGA gets played sometimes on Tuesday nights, which I may have to look into.  (I FINALLY get a single night off from work, it happens to be Tuesdays... until my boss changes his mind... again)  I've been unable to find any opponents for FoW, which is why I've slowed down on my second LW army and have hesitated starting Bolt Action.  (SIGH, where are all the Historical Wargaming fans in the KC area?!?)  Finally, I also read that their may be some organized play for the Pathfinder ACG coming in the near future.  I'm a Pathfinder junky, and I really, really, REALLY would love to find an RPG group but my schedule really limits me, so I'm hoping I can fit the ACG OP into my schedule as a bit of an alternative to the RPG.  We shall see...

The Heroes of MYTH are ready for action!

I recently finished up the rest of the Heroes from the MYTH board game, and despite having some issues in the "clean up" department due to the materials of the models, I'm pretty please for such a quick job!  Hard to say which is my favorite.  The Archer's pose is pretty "meh".  The Apprentice always looks unnaturally red-skinned in the art, so I tried to give him more of an Indian look without deviating too much more from the official look.  I still like how the brigand turned out, but his pose is also kind of blah, which leaves the Soldier and the Acolyte.  I really like the color combinations of the Acolyte, but I really overall how the Soldier turned out as well.  With these guys all finished up, I'll be moving onto the Crawlers next...
