My time in the beta of The Division. (Xbox)

Recently, I was able to take part in The Division's open beta on Xbox.  I had already preordered the game a couple of weeks ago after watching some gameplay and finding out a bit about the story.  At first, I wasn't going to participate, out of fear of spoiling too much of the story, but in the end the temptation to try the game got the best of me.  That said, and this probably a bit of a good thing really, I did not get to spend near as much time with The Division as I would have liked, but that also means less of the overall gameplay experience would be spoiled allowing to still get that "release day buzz" feeling come March.  Still, I feel pretty confident enough in what little time I had to be able to give my initial impressions of the game.  I plan to cover gameplay, a wee bit on story (no true spoilers), and just my overall thoughts and experiences...

Before we begin, I should set a few things straight right from the start.  First, my impressions here are from my little time in the BETA.  Since it is a beta experience, things will definitely be a bit different upon the game's release.  There are level caps in place, scenes and missions cut from the game to preserve the story, not all the in-game options and abilities are available, etc. Please, just keep that in mind while you read.  I'm also going to reference a few other games in this review, BUT by no means does that mean The Division has ripped off any of the titles I mention.  Rather, I'm referencing past games I've played (and probably one you'll be familiar with) simply so you can have an easier time relating to certain aspects of The Division, or have your own reference point to look back on.  Really it boils down to making it easier to describe my own experiences more than anything, being able to point to another, relatable example from somewhere else.  Also, I mostly spent my time in the PVE side, doing side missions, checking out weapons, getting used to the controls, etc.  I only played a little bit in the Dark Zone PVP area where I imagine a lot of the action, and a lot of the draw for some players will reside.  This post may be a little allover of the place, as it is pretty unscripted, and is mostly a bit of a rant about my views of the beta.  Just bare that in mind as well...

Let's begin...

This Geek's Week...

** This may be my last post for awhile.  Ive got no hobby projects coming up, and have been doing next to no tabletop, cards, or board gaming to speak.  I doubt many people want to keep reading:  "I played some xbox" each and every week, so I think I'll postpone my regular posts until something cool and/or exciting happens that is worthy of posting...

Modeling/Hobby:
- Finished up my two alt starting KDM characters, meaning I now once again have no hobby projects on my painting desk and nothing on my "to do" list...

Video Games:
- Preordered The Division.  I also watched the agent origins short film.  I'm excited!

- Played some more Star Wars Battlefront.

- Played some more Halo 5.

- Played some Horus Heresy: Drop Assault and Pokemon shuffle on my phone.

- Played some Disney Infinity with my daughter...
Until next time,

This Geek's Week...

More buildings in the future may be a nice thing to REALLY fill a table!

Modeling/Hobby:
- Worked some more on my Plast Craft buildings, and managed to finish them up.  Now I gotta figure out once more what my next hobby project will be...

- Put together two alternate KDM starting characters, mostly just to hold me over until I can pick a new, larger hobby project as I have nothing else to work on...

Card/Board Games:
- Played a game of Weiss Schwarz, Kancolle vs Attack on Titan.  It was close, but the Kancolle deck won out in the end...

At least I don't always stink at free-for-all...

Video Games:
- Played some more Halo 5.... More like SUCKED at some more Halo 5, though I did have some good FFA games.

- Borrowed a copy of Destiny to give it a quick try.  Wanted to decide if I wanna pick it up, or hold out a few weeks for The Division. I think I've decided to go with The Division...

- Played some Disney Infinity with my daughter...

She gave me a shout out on her stream!
- Played a few games of Star Wars Battlefront.  Still not a big fan, but I feel zero pressure when I play it, making it an easy "run-n-gun" way to waste time...

- I've been watching a lot of All Pro Girl's Halo streams this week, mostly while trying to finish watching Man in the High Castle, which I lost interest in towards the end.  (We did finish it, and it was kinda lame)

This Geek's Week...

Modeling/Hobby:
- Started painting my Plast Craft terrain.  Thus far, I've finished over 1/2 of the buildings and all of the ladders/walkways.  I'm down to just two large buildings and 3 walk sections...

Tabletop Games:
- Played one of the solo scenarios for Sails of Glory.  It never fails though, I just can't predict movements in games like these! (Still fun!)

Card/Board Games:
- Played a game of Boss Monster with my daughter...

Video Games:
- Played some Disney Infinity with my daughter...

- Played some more Halo 5.  *sigh*. I'm so bad at it though... Like, rage-inducing BAD at it. =(

- Played some Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon...
