Red Corsairs - Finished Test Terminator scheme

Recently I finished up the first model of my new 40k project, a Red Corsairs army built upon a foundation of Dark Vengeance minis.  It has been a long time since I have painted anything from GW, and say what you will about their games, prices, and/or corporate policies, but I really enjoyed putting these together and painting them!  Dare I say it, I almost had FUN doing it... and considering the fact that I do not truly like the painting/modeling aspects of the hobby (I just hate unpainted stuff even more so) then it is a bit of a compliment for sure!



In one of my earlier posts, I spoke about my overall idea for my Red Corsairs army.  As a brief refresher, I remember back a few editions ago, when the Corsairs were made up all loyalist-turned-traitor, which retained their original paint schemes but added red X's to the imperial iconography and/or chaos marks.  There was just something about the whole concept that I found interesting, a bit more so than today's red/black scheme.  That said, I felt like I wanted another way of unifying the force, and the idea was born that as gear needed replacing, it would be done so in the current red/black.  Thus, over time, after countless battles, a marine would slowly morph into a full corsair.









Which brings me to this guy!  All in all, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.  One of the things I have had people comment on is how I do my highlights.  I've never been a big fan of the whole "highlight every edge", instead, I put the model under an overhead light and paint only the "visual hotspots" that I can see, so that the highlights are placed only in their natural areas.  Also, I had to convert something closer to a reaper autocannon as chaos termies do not have access to the default assault cannon that came on him.  From here, I'm moving onto painting the rest of the squad...
